Hi there!! My name is Ashley Johnson and I am the "one woman show" running everything related to Sunkissed Hair Co.!
I'm originally from South Carolina but I planted my roots in Denver May of 2015, just a few short months after graduating from the Paul Mitchell cosmetology program. Before hair ruled my life, I graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science with a focus in Chemical Foundations from The University of South Carolina. It was basically a fancy degree for studying the chemical and biological build of life. This is where I got my foundation for chemistry (it was my favorite subject) and biology, which helped me tremendously in cosmetology school. Although, when I started cosmetology school I had no idea the extent that my degree would come in handy, but as it turns out, all hair coloring is chemistry and biology based (which we'll cover in another blog)! This is what lead me to specialize in color, more specifically balayage and blonding services. After working in SC for 3 short months I packed my bags and headed for the Mile High City, where I found it was A LOT more expensive to live than I thought. After having multiple jobs, I finally settled in at a salon that I loved and who turned into my family for 2.5 years before I parted ways.
I knew as soon as I started school that I would own a salon one day. In cosmetology school, it seemed like everyone just wanted to make money. While that was great and I did want to make a living off of "doing hair," I wanted so much more than that. I was so passionate. I knew one day I would want to have a space that was special; where the truly passionate and creative hair artists could do more than just make a living. They could create works of art with hair... just like I wanted to do!
June of 2019 that dream became a reality. Now, I've never been one to write down goals, but NYE 2018/2019 intuition told me to write down my goals. One of the six goals I wrote down was to start looking into opening my own salon suite. After the salon I was working with had some unfavorable policy changes, I decided that it was time to take a leap of faith and open what was Shearology Salon Denver. I rushed to get everything done as quickly as possible and I never felt completely satisfied with it; something was off... I wanted a name and a brand that I could be proud of and carry with me throughout the rest of my career. I wanted a brand that I could turn into something real and big and beautiful. I wanted a salon that everyone can come to and feel welcome, at home, and comfortable in their own skin. I wanted a salon where like minded people could come together and talk about what they love all day every day! That's when Sunkissed Hair Co. was born. Sunkissed Hair Co. is a space that I have designed for all creative and like minded people whether you are a stylist or a guest. When you walk in my door, you will always feel at home, comfortable and free to make strong decisions.
I've decided to start this blog to help you gain the best and most accurate beauty information out there. We will cover everything from what kind of hair you have, how to style it, what will look best for you face shape and/or coloring! I also want to provide you with general knowledge on fashion trends and "what's in" as the seasons change. I hope that each week you can take from this blog a bit of information to incorporate into your daily life. My goal as a stylist is to give you the hair of your dreams in the salon and the knowledge on how to care for it at home! If you ever want information on something specific, just put it in the comments or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org... I'm always happy to help!
